Abstract

An overview of the present state of knowledge of the insect order T hysanoptera in the four southern continents is provided. Knowledge of thrips biology and host associations has increased considerably in A ustralia, but not in the other three areas. The rich fauna of S outh A merica, particularly the southern areas, remains poorly explored, and faunal relationships across the Austral regions are not well documented.
