Abstract

Augmented Reality (AR) is an immersive media currently used for entertainment-based education and effectively attracts the younger generation's interest. This technology allows 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional visuals to be displayed in the real world through gadgets such as smartphones and tablets. The Nandur Sareng event has been held sustainably since 2020 to reintroduce the local young generation to the culture of traditional rice planting in Delanggu Subdistrict. This research was conducted to analyze the design activities and effectiveness of the Nandur Sareng event in 2023, which was held through a hybrid approach, AR technology, and direct practice. The methods used in this research are (1) cultural mapping with local farmers, (2) design process, such as event, applications, characters, and animations, (3) project implementation through collaboration with local farmers, and (4) program evaluation. This event increases the younger generation's interest in traditional rice farming culture and effectively conveys the educational points related to the farming process. This event also proves that contemporary technology plays an essential role in the sustainability aspect of educational and cultural programs through the enthusiasm of invited students to rejoin the activity in the next event.
