Escrita da história e representação: sobre o papel da imaginação do sujeito na operação historiográfica

Abstract

Este artigo discute o problema da representação histórica, com ênfase no papel desempenhado pela imaginação do sujeito na construção do objeto e do texto da história. Tomando como ponto de partida o conceito de representação-efeito, argumenta-se que o papel da imaginação não deve ser nem descartado, nem superestimado, como por vezes parecem sustentar os envolvidos no debate. Argumenta-se, também, que uma reconsideração do papel da imaginação permite repensar a relação entre texto histórico e seu leitor, tomado como agente ativo de leitura.This article discusses the problem of historical representation, with emphasis on the role played by the subject's imagination in the construction of the historical object and the historical text. Taking as starting point the concept of representation-effect, one sustains that the role of imagination shall neither be discarded or overestimated, as it is commonly proposed. One argues that the reconsideration of the role of imagination allows one to rethink the relation between historical text and its reader, the reader being considered as an active agent in the reading process.
