Abstract

The arrival of non-Spanish-speaking students in the Chilean educational system has highlighted the urgent need for a set of comprehensive actions and strategies that address this multidimensional phenomenon. This paper articulates a language policy proposal based on four complementary axes: 1) the development of intercultural competence, 2) the teaching of Spanish as a second language, 3) the teaching of curricular contents in Spanish, and 4) the recognition and promotion of the mother tongue or first language.
