Abstract

In this chapter we will introduce the category of dendroidal sets, which is the main object of study of this book. The definition of a dendroidal set mirrors that of a simplicial set, except that the category Δ is replaced by a larger category Ω of trees. The morphisms in the latter category are the operad morphisms between the free operads generated by these trees.
