Abstract

In the Veterinary Hospital Division “Prof. Dr. José Vicente Núñez ”of the Department of Pathology and Clinic of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences of the National University of Asunción, 86 bitches without distinction of race, older than one year of age, were sampled, with the aim of determining the risk factors associated with mammary tumors. Of the bitches sampled, 43 were considered control, and the remaining 43 were positive for mammary tumors. The results obtained were classified according to age (OR 8.7) p= 0,0004 , calving (OR 1.2) p=0,6661, castration (OR 1.86) p= 0,1746 and use of progestogens (OR 2.41) p= 0,04, being risk factors for the appearance of mammary tumors in bitches the age (older than 5 years) and the use of progestin.
