Abstract

A simple but efficient method of determining the thermophysical properties of orthotropic materials such as carbon-carbon composites is the subject of this study. An inverse method based on the exact solution is the method of choice for this investigation. A thin platinum film served as the heater and the carbon-carbon was electrically isolated from the heater using a layer of aluminum nitride. The experimental data were fed into an inverse procedure for simultaneous determination of heat flux input, thermal conductivity, heat capacitance, and energy losses through insulation.
