Infección del tracto urinario

Abstract

The urinary tract infection (UTI) is one of the most frequent bacterial infection in childhood. It is an especially interesting object of study for various reasons: its frequency, its non specific clinical features and the controversy that surrounds its diagnosis, treatment, follow up and prevention, as well as for its capacity to develop complications in the short term (sepsis, bacteremia) and in the long term (recurrence, renal scarring). In this chapter we review the diagnosis, treatment, follow up and prevention regimens which attempt to prevent the complications already mentioned in order to reduce the variation of the clinical management of UTI in the paediatric population.
