The development of in-service education and training as seen through the pages of the british journal of in-service education

Abstract

The British Journal of In-service Education provides a unique record of the development and growth in provision of in-service education over the past twenty-two years.This article traces developments by way of a detailed content analysis of all papers published in the Journal. Whilst policy issues are featured throughout, the article points to the essentially piecemeal nature of development. More recently notions of competency have come to the fore and in England, the rapidly growing role of the Teacher Training Agency may, in time, force a redrawing of the map of in-service provision and control. © 1997 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
