Abstract

An investigation of the stability of injection molding was done in order to elucidate the mechanism of flow mark surface defects, using a transient finite element method. Testing and development of the numerical method for this complex flow was performed using a one mode exponential Phan-Thien-Tanner model. The results showed that for strain hardening rheologies, an instability was observed in the channel flow far from the interference, in agreement with the performed calculations.
