Abstract

There are several modes of operation planned for the CRYRING heavy ion accelerator/storage system. From vacuum considerations, it may be reasonable to separate these modes into: (i) acceleration; (ii) storage at high energies; (iii) storage at low energies. The vacua required may be calculated from simple considerations using interpolated electron capture cross-sections. From this starting point, a test system was designed and constructed. This is the topic of the present paper together with some initial results showing that it is possible to reach a vacuum in the lower 10-12 torr region. © 1987.
