Characterization of coffee growing in Trujillo, Valle del Cauca, Colombia

Abstract

The objective of this article is to make a diagnosis of the historical, socioeconomic and environmental reality of coffee growing in the municipality of Trujillo, Valle del Cauca, Colombia. The starting point is to consider that this is a region occupied by social communities with a historical tradition linked to coffee growing, favored by the environmental conditions of the territory. This is expressed in the territorial identities of coffee growers, which have been key to the local development of coffee growing, where they have developed adaptive strategies to face the territorial and socioeconomic challenges imposed. For this purpose, secondary sources, statistics on the economic productivity of the municipality and interviews were used to learn about aspects related to the processes of historical occupation and spatial mobility, as well as the perceptions of the present and future that coffee growers have of the territory they inhabit.
