Abstract
The research and application of materials with high specific strength is one of the topical areas of science and industry. New technologies are needed to produce joints from such materials. In this work, titanium alloy Ti-2Al-1.5Mn with thickness of 5 mm is welded by friction stir welding for the first time. The structure and mechanical properties of the welds are investigated. A tool made of ZhS6U heat-resistant superalloy was used to produce the joints. As a result, joints with a strength of not less than 95% of the strength of the initial material were produced for the first time. However, it was found that bending tests were also necessary because the stronger specimens showed the root opening of the joint when bending. It was also found that modification of the material structure resulted in a yield point in the tensile diagram. During the experiment, the tool cumulatively welded about 1100 mm of material without fracture.
