SPIRITUAL AND MORAL EDUCATION THROUGH THE PRISM OF ISLAM AND MUSIC

Abstract

Islam became the state religion for the Tatar people in 922, was and is not only a religion, but also a way of life, the foundation of history, culture and art. Islam is organically connected with the centuries‑old history of the spiritual culture of the Tatar people, and for more than a millennium it has played a decisive role in shaping the way of life, education system, worldview and spiritual values of the Tatar society. The study of the musical component in Muslim practice opens up to researchers and musicians‑ educators many interesting aspects related to religious rituals, musical forms, texts and their spiritual impact on believers. The musical component of Muslim practice helps to identify new facets of understanding the phenomenon of spirituality in art and musical education. An analysis of the canonical principles of the Muslim tradition makes it possible to better understand and appreciate the depth of art. One of the most important elements of the nation is spiritual culture with such important components as religion, rituals, folklore, as well as other types of spiritual activities – the national theater, the education system and the media. It is these components together, and not each separately, that determine the fate of the nation and its development prospects. The value paradigms of Islamic culture influenced each other in the time perspective and now create an opportunity to analyze the interrelationships of musical traditions of different territories and the interpretation of historical dynamics in a particular subject of the Russian Federation. This article is based on a transcript of an interview with the Mufti, Chairman of the Unified Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, imam‑khatib of the Cathedral Mosque of Krasnoyarsk (SMR) Fatkulin Gayaz Talgatovich, as well as a sermon from the collective Friday Muslim worship service (juma namaz) recorded at the Cathedral Mosque of Krasnoyarsk on May 24, 2024.
