Abstract
The dismantling of the welfare state has not only renewed interest in the concept of care. It has highlighted also the crisis of care as a manifestation of social and political failure to ensure the welfare of large sectors of the population. This article examines the impact of this crisis in a profession focus on care: nursing. It is an exploration of the conception of nursing students about care (in this professional and social dimension). Used an interpretative qualitative methodology from data collection through a questionnaire of open questions and discussion groups. The results are articulated from four categories of analysis: Care, obstacles, ethical dimension and social dimension. The crisis of care, registered in a crisis of values, affects perceptions of students in aspects such as patient accountability in obstruct care or effacement of the social dimension of nursing.
