Introduction to the Handbook of Critical International Relations

Abstract

The aim of this introduction is to explain both the concrete and abstract tensions that inform critical international relations. It analyzes various thematic topics, including emancipation, the reconfiguration of concepts, political economy and domination, and current global challenges. In addition, it offers a brief history of critical international relations and examines many of the key ideas that have shaped each of these topics, most notably: otherness, authoritarian neoliberalism, non-Western sources of international thought, agonistic recognition, and critical animal studies.
