Abstract

"The withdrawal of positive reinforcement was implemented for pre-school children by interrupting movie cartoons they were watching. When this withdrawal could be both escaped and avoided by a simple response, escape behavior was generated by a Hefferline schedule of reinforcement withdrawal, and avoidance behavior was generated by an 'escalator' schedule."
