Abstract
As it happens in many other countries, soccer is no doubt the sport, which gathers more fans in Portugal. The fine results achieved by the national soccer team are a reason for national pride and union feeling. The purpose of this article is to highline sport’s management most unseen part, the financial management of soccer teams. The Sporting, SAD was chosen as the present case study. The authors have analysed the evolution of Sporting’s financial balance during the first decade of its existence, using the classical financial ratio approach. The data were obtained from the Sporting, SAD’s Financial Statements. The results show an unbalanced financial period for the first seven years. Although Sporting, SAD has overtaken this problem for the last three years, it is the authors’ opinion that the financial engineering performed by the organization’s administration during the season of 2004/2005 was the base for such a change
