Abstract

Guava (Psidium guajava L.) is a type of shrub fruit that grows in most tropical countries. Despite the fruit that can be consumed, the leaves are also useful to be used as an antidiarrheal traditional medicine since it contains chemical compounds such as tannins. This study aims to determine the total tannin content in guava when it is extracted using acetone, ethanol, and methanol as solvents. Guava powder were extracted by using the maceration method using acetone, ethanol 96%, and methanol solvent then the filtrate was concentrated with a rotary evaporator. Tannins were identified in the extract by using a 1% gelatin solution. To test the analysis of tannin levels, folin denis reagent and 20% Na 2 CO 3 solution and were added and analyzed using UV-Vis spectrophotometry with a wavelength of 765 nm. The results of the study obtained a tannin level extract acetone of 21,3305 ppm±0,1039; extract ethanol of 21.413 ppm±0,1451; and extract methanol of 25.9586 ppm±0,1262.
