Abstract

The project “Our Common River Eurajoki” aims for a long-term sustainable and collaborative platform for improving and managing the river water quality. We describe a website that supports the project by linking social media to environmental monitoring and web mapping. The website development was based on five-tiered software architecture and on several systems working together. Coding was minimized by re-using existing software components. We discuss the workflows supported by the website and the role of information system standards in environmental monitoring.
