Abstract

An incomplete early Middle Miocene crustacean fossil Palaega sp. (Isopoda) is reported from the Masuda Group in the western part of Shimane Prefecture. The associated benthic foraminiferal assemblage indicates deposition at neritic water depths. Associated planktonic foraminifera indicate a biostratigraphic position equivalent to zone N8/9 of the early Middle Miocene. -from English summary
