Abstract

The emission intensities of the rare-earth ions in inorganic compounds are sensitive to changes in structural parameters, the charge type of the cations, and rare-earth concentration. Comparisons of the fluorescence of Eu3+ in a number of related tungstates show that under long-wave ultraviolet excitation comparable series (M2+ tungstates or M0.53+ tungstates with a fixed Eu3+ content) show a logarithmic dependence of emission intensity upon the average volume of the ions in the structure.
