Abstract
This chapter reviews literature on the hydration of portland cement and clinker minerals published during the year 1983. It also reviews literature published in the previous year, but became available in the United States only in 1983. The most significant publication this year in the area of cement chemistry was a book 'Advances in Cement Technology,' edited by Ghosh, which contains several chapters relevant to hydration of cement. The other notable publications with papers bearing on the hydration of cement were the proceedings of a discussion meeting of the Royal Society held in London in 1983 and the proceedings of an international seminar on calcium aluminates held in Turin (Italy) in 1982. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (ESCA) and liquid phase analysis was used to follow the hydration of C//3A in the early stage.
