Mistake in Hirsch’s proof of the Brouwer Fixed Point Theorem

Abstract

A mistake in Hirsch’s proof of the Brouwer Fixed Point Theorem, based on the Simplicial Approximation Theorem, is pointed out along with some elaboration of its nature and possible ways to salvage Hirsch’s proof.
