Abstract

Rough facing on a turret lathe, several boring operations, and rough facing on a vertical lathe were investigated to evaluate the possibility of using fluctuating speed cutting in metal cutting practice. The results show that fluctuating speed cutting is practical when the roughing capability is to be increased, provided that the machine system has a certain structural rigidity. However, it is less practical in finishing operations.
