Abstract

Osteoarthritis of the hip is a common degenerative arthritis and a common reason for disability. Common etiological factors are femoroacetabular impingement, dysplastic hip, trauma and osteonecrosis. The diagnosis is clinical and radiological. The most common symptoms are decreased range of motion and pain around the hip. Narrowing of joint spaces and osteophytes are the common radiological findings. The first line of treatment is conservative. Lifestyle modifications, weight loss, and physiotherapy are the choices. If these measures fail, then surgical treatment must be done.
