Abstract

The American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) established guidelines for providing neuraxial anesthesia for obstetric patients. Important points of the guidelines include (1) required presence of qualified anesthesia and obstetric providers, (2) immediate availability of resuscitation mediation and equipment, (3) employment and documentation of maternal vital signs and fetal heart rate monitoring, and (4) mandatory preprocedural intravenous access.
