Abstract
In the present investigation, a simplified method for the synthesis of mesoporous alumina using a sol-gel strategy is reported. Formation of the mesoporous structure is supported by the results of a Brunauer-Emmett-Teller study. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy spectra confirmed its primary characteristic peaks. Elemental analysis and X-ray diffraction revealed the formation of γ-Al2O3, after calcination at 700°C. Particle size and zeta potential were measured to assess the size and the surface charge of the synthesised mesoporous material. © The Institution of Engineering and Technology 2013.
