Abstract
Introduction: Emergent or early literacy is the first phase of construction and development of literacy and should be seen as a continuous developmental process that begins in the first years of life and which develops in the real environment of each person. Method: An integrative review of the literature was carried out, whose objectivewas to systematize the knowledge about the new approach to the construction and apprehension of literacy. Results and Discussion: Three main areas of assessment were considered: strategies/activities promoting family literacy, shared reading of stories (as a practice of family literacy more conducive to the development of emerging literacy), and positive repercussions of the early promotion of this practice in the integral development of a child. When looking at the process of literacy, there is currently a new vision involving not only the child but also the family in general and the parents in particular. These are now being regarded as key elements and their participation in this process must be mobilized as early as possible concerning Primary Health Care.
