Abstract

This article explores the influence of contemporary cultural studies on the transformation of the prevailing concepts and practices of culture - including notions of 'mass' and 'high' culture. The author draws on the different views of a variety of authors, such as John Hartley, Q. D. Leavis, Ken Gelder and Catherine Lumby.
