Clivajes sin partidos: el populismo y sus votantes en Perú

Abstract

Perú, pese a su volatilidad electoral y ausencia de partidos estables, presenta un patrón predecible de voto en torno a clivajes socioeconómicos, étnicos y territoriales. Estos favorecen a líderes populistas que movilizan a votantes de la periferia mediante narrativas que reivindican su identidad frente a élites del centro. El artículo demuestra que los clivajes sociales pueden persistir sin partidos estables y que el populismo peruano se arraiga en la periferia y su antagonismo con el centro.Peru, despite its electoral volatility and the absence of stable parties, exhibits a predictable voting pattern structured around socioeconomic, ethnic, and territorial cleavages. These patterns benefit populist leaders who mobilize voters on the periphery through narratives that claim their identity in opposition to central elites. This article shows that social cleavages can persist without stable parties and that Peruvian populism is rooted in the periphery and its antagonism toward the center.
