Abstract

Specially designed SEM in-situ tensile and fatigue tests have been conducted to trace the entire process of crack initiation and propagation till fracture in Al2O3 seeded P/M Rene'95 superalloy. Special thin foil TEM samples (with inclusions) were carefully prepared and detail observations were conducted with electron microscopy. The distribution of stress and strain field around inclusions has been calculated by means of an elasto-plastic finite element method (FEM) model with the commercial software, ANSYS. The results of this work are helpful to establish the practical life prediction model for the characteristic inclusion parameters in P/M superalloy components.
