Abstract
The article focuses on the use of embedded librarians, particularly in academic libraries. Benefits to library user services related to the immediate access to librarians is explored. The importance of building relationships involving reference librarians and library users is examined. Particular focus is given to the differences between liaison librarians and embedded librarians, noting the latter's focus on teaching, reference and research rather than on collection development. Library readiness, managerial responsibilities, and potential problems for embedded librarians are also discussed.
