Abstract
Xylosandrus germanus (Bldf.) appears to be increasing in economic importance in the USA and has already damaged a young plantation of black walnut (Juglans nigra) in Indiana and tulip poplar (Liriodendron tulipifera) in Ohio. Because the reported distribution of the scolytid in North America is based upon scattered records and because of its potential pest status, the authors have updated the distribution in America north of Mexico. By examining the literature and various insect collections and by making field collections, it was found that the distribution ranged from Connecticut and New York in the north to Georgia in the south and Missouri and Louisiana in the west. Specific localities are shown in a table.
