Abstract

Geothermal energy is one of Indonesia's national strategic programs to reduce the country's dependence on fossil fuels. Geothermal energy also plays an important role in improving the economic conditions of communities in the surrounding area. However, this economic growth has also been accompanied by negative impacts on the environment. The dispersion of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas has been a major concern in the Ulumbu Geothermal Working Area (WKP), Manggarai Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) since it developed in 2012. This research aims to explore the feasibility of AMIS (Abbattimento Mercurio ed Idrogeno Solforato) methodology to mitigate the impact of H2S. The research also emphasizes the importance of careful planning by project developers and local government to achieve a balanced approach between methodological advancement and environmental preparedness. By combining methodological refinement with careful planning, this study highlights the good potential of the AMIS methodology in mitigating H2S impacts. This convergence of approaches not only promotes environmental sustainability but also revitalizes agricultural and plantation activities and advances the socio-economic welfare of the Ulumbu area community.
