Abstract

The present work describes the extrusion behavior of mono calcium aluminate (CaAl2O4; CA) paste in order to develop a new inorganic binder for extrusion. Hydration imparted significant flowability and rigidity to the CA paste. CA paste was successfully extruded using a piston-cylindrical die with low extrusion force, under optimum curing period. Furthermore, even without the addition of the organic binder, a small amount of CA acted as a suitable inorganic binder for extrusion. These good extrusion behaviors such as good flowability and rigidity of these samples were probably caused by much free space filled with water and the lubricating effect between the particles.
