Abstract
Lu, B.‐R. and Bothmer, R. von. 1990. Genomic constitution of Elymus parviglumis and E. pseudonutans: Triticeae (Poaceae). —Hereditas 113: 109–119. Lund, Sweden. ISSN 0018–0661. Received April 12, 1990. Accepted June 21, 1990 Intraspecific crosses between different populations ofElymus parviglumis (Keng) A. Löve (2n%4x = 28) and E. pseudonutans A. Löve (2n%4x = 28), and interspecific hybridizations of the two species with the “analyzer” species, i.e., E. caninus (L.) L. (2n%4x = 28, SH), E. semicostatus (Nees ex Steud.) Melderis (2n%4x = 28, SY) and E. tsukushiensis Honda (2n%6x = 42, SHY), were performed through embryo rescue. Meiotic pairing was studied in the parental species and hybrids to determine the genomic constitution of the two species. The study reveals: (i) a strict allotetraploid nature of the two species; (ii) that both E. parviglumis and E. pseudonutans contain the basic “S” and “Y” genomes, and that they are closely related species; (iii) that a translocation has possibly occurred between chromosomes of some accessions of E. parviglumis.
