Abstract

Revised version of the author's doctoral thesis--Princeton University, 2010. In this book, Amr Osman presents a new reading of both the history and doctrine of the Zạ̄hirī madhhab, from its emergence in the 3rd/9th century to its demise in the 10th/16th century. The history of the Ẓāhirī Madhhab -- Ẓāhirīsm : a critical review -- Ẓāhirīsm between literalism and (con)textualism.
