Association of stress level with the development of metabolic syndrome in health personnel

Abstract

Introduction: currently there are several risk factors which compromise the health of the person, leading to the development of countless pathologies such as hypertensive diseases, diabetes, obesity and arteriosclerosis and one of the main factors that affect this is stress. Objective: to identify the association of stress level with the development of metabolic syndrome in health personnel of the General Hospital IESS of Ambato. Method: the methodology used for data analysis of the study was based on a descriptive design with a prospective, correlational and cross-sectional quantitative approach. The Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) was applied to the selected study subjects to determine the stressors that affect the normal development of functions in the participating hospitals. This instrument consists of 14 items or questionnaires that measure the degree to which life situations are considered stressful. Conclusions: there is correlation between the development of metabolic syndrome and the level of stress in the study subjects.
