Mechanochemical synthesis of NaNbO 3, KNbO 3 and K 0.5Na 0.5NbO 3

Abstract

Mechanochemical synthesis of the K 0.5Na 0.5NbO 3 solid solution (KNN) is studied. In order to explore the mechanochemical interactions between the constituents in the Na 2CO 3 - K 2CO 3 - Nb 2O 5 system, NaNbO 3 and KNbO 3 as the boundary compositions of the KNN solid solution are also studied. It has been shown that NaNbO 3 can be prepared by a single-step mechanochemical synthesis, while in the case of K 2CO 3 and Nb 2O 5, and Na 2CO 3, K 2CO 3 and Nb 2O 5 mixtures, only amorphisation occurs even after prolonged milling.
