Abstract

Occupational hazards prevention is a managerial practice, which is currently fundamental to the companies’ performance due to the competition’s conditions. However, this topic is quite difficult to be implemented within the business management activities. Particularly, this is an interesting topic to study in the case of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs). For this reason, to determinate the level of managing the prevention of hazards within MSMEs, it was applied a methodology of transversal descriptive approach by taking a sample of 88 formal small firms producers of capital goods in Santiago de Cali, Colombia. The data analysis was conducted with a logistic regression model that shows, as a result, the commitment of the direction, functional, and responsibilities level within the MSMEs is insufficient what allow us to conclude that these firms lowly manage the hazards and this influences their competitiveness.
