Abstract

The reaction of acrylonitrile or Me acrylate with various aldehydes in the presence of tricyclohexylphosphine gives 70-90% CH2:C(CN)CH(OH)R, where R is Me, Et, Pr, iso-Pr, heptyl, Ph, p-chlorophenyl, and p-tolyl, and CH2:C(CO2Me)CH(OH)R, where R is Me, Et, Pr, and Ph. [on SciFinder(R)]
