Abstract

Diabetes Self Management Education (DSME) identifies several specific skills called self-management that help change various factors related to adherence which in turn help change the lifestyle of a person with diabetes. DSME is given on an ongoing basis, ignoring the pillars of DM management. The research objective was to determine the effectiveness of Diabetes Self Management Education (DSME) on blood glucose levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients in the Limboto Barat Community Health Center. Pre-experimental research method design with a sample size of 15 people, sampling technique with probability sampling. The analysis used the dependent t-test / paired t test. The results showed that there was a significant difference in blood glucose levels in the measurement after giving DSME to the respondents where the p value was <0.05 (p = 0.00), with a positive t value (4.67) which indicated that the measurement of blood glucose levels before treatment greater than the measurement after treatment, so it can be concluded that there are differences in blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus before and after the intervention of the application of Diabetes Self Management Education (DSME). Suggestions for this study is that it is expected to implement educational programs (health education) for people with diabetes to be given more systematically and continuously containing related materials using interesting media and methods.
