Abstract

This paper mainly introduces how to develop a resilience evaluation model by quantifying the relationship between resilience and resilience components in regard to recovering from emergency situations in nuclear power plants (NPPs). It is an extension of the author's previous researches. To develop the model, the first step was to analyze event reports published in Republic of Korea in terms of resilience factors from different safety perspectives. Second, statistical methods such as factor analysis, principal component analysis, and multivariate regression analysis were applied to the dataset to identify relations among resilience factors and develop a quantitative resilience evaluation model for recovery from emergency situations in NPPs. Third, the model was validated using the recent event report data released in Korea. Lastly, we present a discussion on how to apply the quantitative resilience evaluation model to results from stress tests performed in Korea.
