Abstract

A variety of herbicides were applied in 1973-78 at varying concentrations to stumps of Eucalyptus globulus in the San Francisco Bay Area of California (top-killed by freezing weather in Dec. 1972) to prevent sprouting at ground surface and thereby reduce fire risk. All the following treatments gave satisfactory (89-100%) control: applications of 2,4-D and 2,4,5-T (4 lb/gal, 50 or 100%), ammonium sulphamate (5 lb/gal, 95%), and glyphosate (3 lb/gal, 25, 50 or 100%) to a handmade ax-frill; a basal spray of 2,4,5-T; and grinding stumps to 6 inches below ground surface. Unsuccessful treatments are listed.
