Abstract

The cardiovascular properties of desflurane and some other inhalational anaesthetics are outlined and compared, and the way in which they may be effectively used in clinical practice is considered. Desflurane appears to offer some advantages compared with currently available anaesthetics. Its effects on left ventricular function are moderate and the solubility of the agent in blood and tissue is remarkably less than isoflurane, enflurane, or halothane.
