Abstract

The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) is a method implemented to detect the changes in vegetation cover. In order to evaluate the vegetation quality of the municipality of Chaguaní-Cundinamarca in Colombia during the period 2013-2018, Landsat 8 OLI TIRS satellite images were used to extract NDVI values. The results identify increases in bare soil from 25,477 hectares to 50,270 hectares between 2013 and 2014, this situation puts the municipality of Chaguaní in a critical state, since it decreases the cultivable areas, affecting the food security of the area.
