Abstract
Background: Suffering neurological damage can lead to an alteration of one´s emotional health, since it causes important physical and cognitive alterations that affect the different areas of the patients’ lives. The main objective of this study was to find out the level of Emotional Intelligence, Self-esteem, Resilience and Quality of Life in people with Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) as opposed to people without such damage. Method: Therefore, a descriptive, comparative, and cross-sectional study was carried out between a treatment group (N =22) and a control group (N =22). An ad hoc Sociodemographic and Well-being questionnaire and Rosenberg self-esteem scale (RSES) of Quality of Life (EuroQol-5D), Resilience (CD-RISC) and Emotional intelligence (TMMS-24) were used in this study. Results: After completion of the statistical analysis, we found significant differences in Quality of Life (p=.001) and Emotional clarity (p=.03), maintaining a significant relationship between them in both groups. In all other variables, Self-esteem, Resilience, attention and repair, no differences were found. Conclusions: We can conclude in relation to the treatment group from this study, that they have lower quality of life and less emotional clarity compared to the group without damage. To sum up, we can use these results to work on Emotional Intelligence given its influence on the Quality of Life.
