Abstract

Tourism is a world sector with great and rapid economic growth. In 2014, considering only direct contribution, participation of tourism in GDP was 3.5% (R$182 billion). The growth must be accompanied by social and economic sustainable development. The investigation objective was (1) to examine the perception of managers and owners in the tourist route Rural Paths of Porto Alegre about the influence of public policies in the social and economic area and (2) the profiles of them and their properties. The methodology adopted was a case study of descriptive nature and constituted by three parts: document analysis, interviews and content analysis. The tourism public policies formulated with other sectors influences directly and indirectly the development of rural tourism. The results pointed disproportional cost-benefit ratio, because the route does not positively impact in the development of rural tourism.
