Sociological Aspects of SeafarersÂ’ Life and Work and Management Styles in Shipping

Abstract

This scientific paper provides a systematic analysis of sociological relationships in the area of seafaring as well as management styles in maritime shipping industry, with particular emphasis on the specific features involved in the vocation of a seafarer. The research was carried out on a sample of seafarers attending training courses at Faculty of Maritime Studies in Split. Separation from family, friends and familiar environment represents one of the essential features of the seafarers' life that are discussed in the paper. Another important 26 sociological factor of the seafarers' specific profession is their workplace, i.e. the ship. Sažetak Ovaj znanstveni rad daje sustavnu analizu socioloških odnosa u području pomorstva, kao i upravljanje stilova u pomorskom brodarstvu, s posebnim naglaskom na specifičnosti koje sudjeluju u pozivu pomoraca. Istraživanje je provedeno na uzorku od pomoraca koji pohađaju tečajeve na Pomorskom fakultetu u Splitu. Odvajanje od obitelji, prijatelja i poznatom okruženju predstavlja jedan od bitnih obilježja pomoraca. Život koji se spominje u novinama. Drugi važan sociološki faktor pomoraca; specifična struka je njihovovo radno mjesto, odnosno brod. Ključne riječi: pomorstvo, soiološki aspekti pomorstva i pomoraca, upravljanje u pomorskom brodarstvu.
